To the Blanket Makers...You Rock!

It's been about a month since I last blogged. I have several hooks going and about four projects in progress, along with combating a mean little psoriasis episode, I haven't been in the best of moods. A little irritated and moody, I'm pressing forward.

About project 1:

I love sweaters, I mean really love sweaters. Even as a child I'm that kid that loved pairing a matching turtleneck under a comfy sweater. There was no shame in me taking that sweater off in class and folding it up into a pillow to nap on my desk. No, I didn't care, I love sleep equally! I'm a smart girl, when my brain says no, I oblige.

My first attempt at a top down seamless pullover using cotton scrap yarn came to a hault, just as I completed the yoke. It looks like a two-year old spilled a pack of Skittles on aisle 6. Though I've taken a more neutral color approach to my wardrobe, I still see the fun sentiments in this piece. I've always had a knack for colors and it reminds me of all the projects that I've embarked on from 2011 to this summer.  Yes, some of these scraps were there from the very beginning and have softened up over the years! I live for super soft cotton. It may serve as a focal piece I hang on the wall of my dream craft studio....wait for it.

Project 2:  Once I ran out of cotton and money to finish the body, I decided to take a more economical, neutral approach and decided to start a piece by piece using white acrylic baby sport weight. I want a sweater, dang it! I've completed several infant ones for profit, even an adult one using some bold colors I couldn't bring myself to wear outside of my bedroom. I have to fall in love with a piece before I complete/wear it so, that particular experience served as a nice exercise to explore my skill and timing. It only stole a weekend, I was on a mission!

Here I am, late evening stitching between episodes of Forensic Files, American Greed, and Unsolved Mysteries every night. I love this pairing!

Project 3: My white sweater was put on hold when I was summoned to whip up some coasters serving as gifts at a party. Cool, no problem, right? Of course not but, the quantity scared me a little: 30!  Now, I'm no whimp but, the most motifs I've completed for a project were 18. If I included the 12 I had completed prior to running out of yarn for edging, I've done it! Well, here I stand 20 down. No big deal at all. Panic attack aborted.

To those that embark on the blanket journey, I commend you! I've seen some really breath taking, mind blowing, beautiful blankets and afghans and I'm tucking my tail about coasters! The time and labor it takes to complete one is surely a idea of revelry. I'd love to snuggle up under a piece filled with that much energy, and love.

Amazing.
