It's Cooling Down Out...Sweaters!

14 oz skein in Countryside Ombre
I got mine for 7.99 at Wal-Mart.
This weekend has been great for cool weather, the temperature has been in the mid 80's with lows in the high 50's,  I love it! My favorite season is approaching.  I've started to unpack my hoodies and cardigans to get them washed and ready to wear.  So, as far as crafting is concerned, I'm beginning to venture out into designing more apparel, getting past all the little accessories.  I started with a sweater that took up an awful amount of time. I surfed online for a simple pattern which turned out not to be so simple at all. By a weeks time, I finished only to have, well, what appeared to be a poncho, a throw really. I don't know, but it wasn't a sweater! so I ended up pulling most of it apart and starting over without a pattern. I really don't use patterns anymore. I just need a good visual to start: the sweater, the size of the person I want my garment to fit, and how I want the garment to drape on the person. So, after about a week I came up with this!

Originally, I had no plans to add a hood, but it felt like it was missing a
certain something.  I actually just used a bonnet that I made over a year ago that never sold, and attached it to the sweater. I wanted to add buttons, but I didn't feel like making a trip out, so I made my own toggles. It came out pretty cute and cozy to me. Guess you can say it's actually a coat now! I paired it with some matching Mary Janes and am now in the process of making a pair of pants to match.  I got the spool at a discounted price, so there's plenty left to try another design. I think I'll do a simple pullover with solid color sleeves to tone down the stripes. I'm excited! Just trying to get rid of this yarn before I make anymore purchases. Sugar and Cream has some beautiful new colors out right now and I'm too anxious to try more designs like this!
